ISLAS HUICHAS

The town of Huichas Islands emerged as a temporary camp of lumberjacks that came to the area to exploit the cypress of the Guaitecas, and later they dedicated themselves to the smoking of ristras de cholgas, these inhabitants arrived from the Chiloé islands, so initially they called the sector "Puerto Huichas", which coincides with a town located on the Isla Grande Chiloé.

During the government of President Pedro Aguirre Cerda, a sea mayor's office was installed, a fact that was considered the foundation of Puerto Aguirre. In the case of the town of Caleta Andrade, its name is due to its first resident Francisco Andrade.
